Demre
Antalya · Türkiye
Demre, on the Mediterranean coast of Antalya Province, stands over the ruins of ancient Myra and is home to the tomb of Saint Nicholas — the 4th-century bishop whose legendary generosity gave rise to the Santa Claus tradition. The town draws Christian pilgrims alongside other visitors, with a compact centre, historic churches, and mountain scenery close at hand. It was known as Kale until 2005, and a Greek Christian community lived here until the 1923 population exchange.
