A town in Chile's Biobío Region whose name — from Mapudungun for "stony ford" — reflects its identity along the Curanilahue River, with mountains visible from the surrounding terrain. The commune has long been shaped by mining and forestry industries and carries a strong connection to Mapuche culture. It sits south of Concepción, the regional capital, in Arauco Province.
