Colombia Coveñas

Coveñas

Coveñas · Colombia

Caribbean resort town on Colombia's Sucre coast, Coveñas has a layered history behind its beach appeal: established in the 16th century as a slave-trading port under the name Hacienda Santa Bárbara de Cobeña, it later became home to Colombia's first refrigerated meat-export facility in the early 20th century, then an oil export terminal that remains active today under Ecopetrol. The town also hosts a Colombian Navy marine training base and has indigenous Zenú communities among its residents.
