Corycus
Mersin · Türkiye
Corycus, an ancient city in Cilicia Trachaea on the southern Anatolian coast, now lies beneath the modern town of Kızkalesi in Mersin Province. Set at the mouth of the valley known as Şeytan deresi, with mountains close behind, the site was added to UNESCO's World Heritage Tentative List in 2014. Its Turkish name, Kız Kalesi — meaning "maiden castle" — points to the medieval fortifications that remain among the most visible traces of its long history.
