Norman-founded town in Apulia's Metropolitan City of Bari, Corato has a compact old centre anchored by a Romanesque church and a concentration of historic churches, with cafés and restaurants nearby. The town later passed to Alfonso V of Aragon and then the Carafa family, and it maintains a twin-city relationship with Grenoble, France, where many residents emigrated during the 20th century.
