This small hamlet in the rolling Vosges saônoises hills of Haute-Saône sits at the source of the river that shares its name, with forested highland terrain rising to nearly double the elevation of the village centre. Founded in the Middle Ages and shaped by Protestantism and nearby coal mining, Clairegoutte retains a preserved historic core with two groups of buildings listed as heritage monuments — evidence of a prosperous artisanal past.
