Founded in 1308 by King Charles II of Anjou, Cittaducale is a small town in the Rieti province of Lazio — historically part of Abruzzo for over six centuries before transferring to Lazio in 1927 — set in mountain terrain near water. It is best known as the starting point of the Peschiera aqueduct that supplies Rome, and its compact centre holds a concentration of historic churches alongside cafés and restaurants.
