Ceglie Messapica

Brindisi · Italy

This walkable Apulian town in the Salento area of Brindisi province, Ceglie Messapica has a whitewashed historic centre of narrow stone-paved lanes, many churches, and a good spread of cafés and restaurants. The surrounding countryside is dotted with trulli, ancient olive groves, masserie, and karst caves, set within wine-growing territory. The old town occupies a hill where a pre-Roman Messapian acropolis once stood, and the wider region is ringed by UNESCO World Heritage sites.
