A city in the Serra Gaúcha highlands of Rio Grande do Sul with a walkable centre dense with cafés, restaurants, and historic churches, Caxias do Sul is the largest city in the region and a strong centre of Italian-Brazilian culture, shaped by Veneto immigrants who arrived in the late 19th century and built an economy on grapes, wine, and eventually metallurgy and manufacturing.
