Small town on the shore of Conception Bay on Newfoundland's Avalon Peninsula, Carbonear has a history rooted in fishing and shipbuilding, and was the site of a 17th-century English fort — Fort Carbonear — facing the island of the same name. Today the town offers boat tours, restaurants, and shopping, with mountains accessible nearby.
