Cainenii Mari
Romania
This small Romanian village in Vâlcea County sits on the Olt Valley at the historic boundary between Oltenia, Muntenia, and Transylvania. Until Romania's unification in 1918, Câinenii Mari served as a customs post between the Kingdom of Romania and Austro-Hungary, and the original customs building still stands in the area. The village holds several historic churches for its size and lies close to mountain terrain, with UNESCO World Heritage sites in the wider region.
