Cacao, French Guiana

French Guiana

A village on the Comté river south of Cayenne, Cacao is home to a Hmong farming community — refugees from Laos resettled here in 1977 because the landscape and conditions resembled their homeland. That cultural transplant gives the village an identity unlike anywhere else in French Guiana.
