Bukavu

Congo - Kinshasa

A large city on the south-western shore of Lake Kivu in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, Bukavu sits at the border with Rwanda with mountain views across the water. Formerly known as Costermansville, it serves as the capital of South Kivu Province. The wider region holds several UNESCO World Heritage sites. Travellers should be aware that the area has experienced significant political unrest and, as of early 2025, the city came under rebel control.
