Bolivar

Founded in the late 18th century on the western slopes of the Cordillera Central, Bolívar is a Colombian municipality in the Cauca Department where the surrounding highlands offer panoramic views of the region. The Cerro de Bolívar, topped by a monument to the Virgen de las Misericordias, provides a vantage point over the landscape, while the Cerro de Lerma draws visitors for its flora and fauna. The town also holds a Guinness record from its early-year carnival, when thousands of hot-air paper lanterns are released simultaneously.
