Blanes
Spain
A beach town on the Costa Brava marking the southern gateway to that stretch of Catalan coastline, Blanes sits where mountains meet the Mediterranean, with coves including Cala Bona and Cala Sa Forcanera tucked along its shore. The town has a walkable centre with a solid food-and-drink scene, botanical gardens, and hosts the Concurs de Focs d'Artifici fireworks competition during the Santa Anna festival. Its Roman-era name was Blanda or Blandae.
