Bivona
Agrigento · Italy
Bivona's Sicani Mountains setting and medieval historic centre hold an unusual concentration of churches for a modest Sicilian town — a legacy of the many religious orders that settled here, including a Jesuit college backed by Ignatius of Loyola. In 1554, Charles V made Bivona the first duchy in the Kingdom of Sicily. The town is also known for its PGI-designated Bivona Peach, cultivated in the surrounding hills since well before the designation was formalised in 2014, and retains traces of a former Jewish community, including remnants of a synagogue.
