Sitting on the northern bank of the Bheri River with views of the Mahabharata and Chure ranges, Birendranagar is the provincial capital of Karnali and the largest city in this part of western Nepal. Planned and established in honour of King Birendra as Nepal's first purpose-built town, it has a walkable centre with a growing café and restaurant scene, and sits at the junction of two national highways — the Ratna Highway and the Karnali Highway — making it a practical base for the region.
