Beruniy
Uzbekistan
Beruniy, a town on the right bank of the Amu Darya river in Karakalpakstan, Uzbekistan, takes its name from the 11th-century scholar Abu Rayhan Beruni, who conducted astronomical observations here in the 990s. The town was previously known as Kat, the ancient capital of Khwarezm. It serves as a regional industrial and administrative centre, connected to Nukus and other cities by road and air.
