Battipaglia
Salerno · Italy
Buffalo mozzarella production has made Battipaglia one of the most productive agricultural centres on the Sele Plain in Campania, southern Italy. The town has a compact centre with cafés and restaurants, vineyards in the surrounding area, and sits close to the coast. Colonised by Greeks and Romans in antiquity, it was heavily bombed during the Allied Operation Avalanche landings in World War II before rebuilding rapidly into the main industrial and railway hub of the region.
