Aslantepe Höyüğü, the ancient mound identified as the original founding site of Malatya, lies within Battalgazi, a large district in eastern Turkey's Malatya Province. The district sits near the Karakaya Dam and is surrounded by apricot orchards, with the Kernek waterfall and Pınarbaşı recreation area drawing visitors across all seasons. It also serves as a practical base for journeys to Mount Nemrut, with UNESCO-listed sites in the wider region.
