A gold-rush town dating from the 1880s, Barberton sits in the De Kaap Valley in Mpumalanga, South Africa, ringed by the Makhonjwa Mountains. One of the country's oldest towns, it lies a short drive south of Mbombela within a wider region that includes UNESCO World Heritage sites.
