`Ayn Shiqaq
Syria
This compact town in northwestern Syria's Latakia Governorate, `Ayn Shiqaq is the birthplace of Syrian poet Nadim Muhammad (1907–1994) and serves as the administrative centre of a subdistrict in the hills south of Latakia, close to the mountains and within reach of the Mediterranean coast. The wider region holds UNESCO World Heritage sites.
