A walkable city in western Türkiye with a centre full of cafés and restaurants, Aydin sits within sight of mountains and close to several UNESCO World Heritage sites in the wider region. It stands on the site of ancient Tralles, a settlement that passed through Hellenic, Roman, and Byzantine hands before being sacked in 1284, and whose name survives today as a titular see of the Roman Catholic Church.
