Aurora, Illinois, earned the nickname "City of Lights" in 1908 after becoming one of the first cities in the United States to install an all-electric street lighting system, back in 1881. This large city in the Chicago metropolitan area sits along the Fox River, with a historic downtown centred on Stolp Island and architecture by Frank Lloyd Wright, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, and others. The Hollywood Casino Aurora, a dockside gaming facility, operates along the riverfront downtown.
