A mid-sized city in the state of São Paulo, founded in 1817, Araraquara has a walkable centre with a concentration of historic churches, cafés, and restaurants. Known locally as "the abode of the sun" for its vivid sunsets and hot summers, the city is also associated with orange and sugar cane production and serves as a regional hub for the surrounding area.
