Antsohimbondrona
Madagascar
A sugarcane and fishing town in northern Madagascar, Antsohimbondrona sits in the delta where the Mahavavy River meets the Indian Ocean, giving it both a maritime harbour and working waterfront. Also known as Port Saint-Louis, the town is a centre for industrial-scale mining alongside agriculture — cotton and rice are grown alongside sugarcane — with mountains visible from the delta and UNESCO World Heritage sites in the wider Diana Region.
