Amasya
Amasya · Türkiye
Rock tombs of the Pontic kings carved into cliffsides above the Yeşilırmak River make Amasya one of northern Turkey's most visually striking cities. Ottoman-era wooden houses line the riverbanks — many restored and now operating as cafés, restaurants, and hotels — with the cliff tombs rising dramatically behind them. The city has a history stretching back some 7,500 years, served as a training ground for young Ottoman princes, and was the birthplace of sultans Murad II and Selim I, as well as the ancient geographer Strabo.
