Amarapura
Myanmar (Burma)
Twice the capital of Myanmar during the Konbaung period — first from 1783 to 1821, then from 1842 to 1857 — Amarapura is now a township within Mandalay, known for its traditional silk and cotton weaving and bronze casting. The Irrawaddy River runs along its western edge, and the ancient capital site of Ava lies to the south. It serves as a popular day-trip from Mandalay for visitors exploring the region's layered royal history.
