This town in the Elis region of the western Peloponnese with a compact centre of cafés and restaurants, Amaliada sits a short distance from the Ionian Sea, with beaches at Kourouta and Palouki nearby. Named after Queen Amalia of Greece in the 1830s, it lies close to the ancient archaeological site of Elis, whose territory hosted the original Olympic Games, and is within reach of Patras to the northeast.
