This Black Sea coast town just west of Trabzon, Akçaabat is known for its local kofta dish (Akçaabat köfte), the Akçaabat Horonu folk dance, and an international folklore festival it has hosted since 1990. The compact centre sits right on the water with mountains rising behind it, and carries a concentration of historic churches alongside its cafés and restaurants.
