Acajutla sits on El Salvador's Pacific coast and is home to the country's principal seaport, through which much of the nation's coffee, sugar, and balsam exports pass. The town lies in the southwest of the Sonsonate department, with mountains close by inland. Its Wikivoyage presence signals some independent traveller interest, though the working port defines its character more than any beach or resort scene.
